Anita was appointed as the CEO of this North East Trust in 2017, she is also the Headteacher of Sacred Heart Catholic High School for girls. All three schools within the Trust serve areas of high disadvantage in Newcastle upon Tyne. A key focus for the Trust is to raise aspirations and achievement for students from disadvantaged backgrounds through developing a curriculum that is both challenging and promotes extensive opportunities for improving cultural capital. Most recently Sacred Heart has led fourteen schools in a DfE project to develop a KS2 Geography curriculum, early indications are this work has both raised standards and reduced teacher workload.
Anita has been teaching English since 1987 and is committed to improving literacy across all subject areas. As a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, she is an advocate for Arts education for all students. She is Chair of NETSP (North East Teaching Schools Partnership) a group of Teaching Schools who work with Newcastle University delivering NPQs across the region.
