On completing a degree in Philosophy and Politics, Ashley became the Export Manager for a business in the North West of England. After undertaking a PGCE, Ashley started his teaching career in Redbridge before taking up his first senior leadership post in Southend. He became the Headteacher at Earls Hall Junior School before, 5 years later, moving on to Thorpe Greenways Junior School, initially on secondment.

He became the Executive Principal at the Thorpe Greenways Infant and Junior Schools in 2012 and, since joining the Learning in Harmony Trust in 2017, he has led an innovative approach to recruitment and marketing across the trust. He is a trained coach and has been a Local Leader of Education for a number of years. He has also facilitated a number of nationally recognised leadership programmes.

He passionately believes in a strong, values-driven approach to learning and places staff well-being and development at the heart of his approach.
