Matthew leads on schools’ use of apprenticeships policy at the Department for Education. His role focusses on how schools can use apprenticeships to add value to their workforce and works closely with the Institute for Apprenticeships, schools and training providers to develop new school based apprenticeship standards. He joined the Department in 2016 and has worked on legislation to make sex and relationships education statutory as well as post-16 English and maths policy. He has previously worked at Swinburne University in Australia managing academic literacy policy as well as the University of Bath and the Office for Students managing learning and teaching enhancement programmes.
