Michael is the safeguarding in schools policy lead in the Department for Education.
Michael has worked in the civil service for sixteen years, five of which have been with DfE.
Before joining DfE Michael worked in a variety of roles in the Department of Work and Pensions. This included pension policy, including auto enrolment, external relations and operational delivery in Jobcentres.
In DfE Michael has worked on primary and secondary legislation, procurement and most recently safeguarding.
Michael has worked in safeguarding for four years. His team are responsible for the statutory safeguarding guidance, Keeping Children Safe in Education.
Michael also leads online safety in schools policy. As part of this remit Michael leads on the department’s input into the UK Council for Internet Safety and coordinates DfE input into the DCMS led internet safety strategy and internet safety white paper.
