Mike is the founding director of MLG and has over 25 years practical experience of working in the sector.
He worked for a City Technology College for 7 years as a School Business Manager and was instrumental in the creation of independent school funding policies while a member of the City Technology College Finance Director group. Mike was also the FD of an independent school for 2 years, where he was part of a team that bought the school from the receiver and worked with parents and staff to turnaround the fortunes of the school.
In 2011 he became a trustee of one of the first primary school umbrella trusts in the country and helped them become a Multi Academy Trust and an academy sponsor. In 2012 he became a director of a Multi Academy Trust and school sponsor in the West Midlands. In these roles Mike secured DfE sponsor status for a school and a leadership organisation, and in both cases successfully managed to secure funding from the DfE. He liaised with the DfE over the sponsorship of 3 schools across the Midlands and built a good working relationship with the DfE school brokers.
Responsibilities: Mike’s role is to help and advise clients of the changes in ESFA regulations and the impact that may have on the day to day operations. Through his close contact with the ESFA and associated contacts, Mike is always on the lookout for opportunities for clients to gain access to additional funding.
