Sarah Wykes

Assistant Head, Inclusion and Commisioning
Batchley First School

Sarah Wykes is the Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion and Commisioning at Batchley.  She feels fortunate to have seen both the value and constraints of inclusion, having worked with children in Specialist settings and mainstream since 1996.

Having worked as a coordinator for Communication in a Special school in Reading, Berkshire, Sarah relocated to Worcestershire.  She began working full time in Batchley Nursery Plus, a specialist early years setting in 2008. She was privileged to work within an inclusive ethos to develop additional provision for children with SEND at Batchley First School. Over her time at the school, her outstanding expertise and knowledge of effective inclusion has benefitted many children, parents and staff. She also combines her passion for SEND with a passion for music and has given the school choir many amazing experiences, including singing at the Royal Albert Hall.

In 2016, Sarah led a successful bid to manage the Early Years Language Class in Redditch and, upon discovering that the classes would not be available County wide, discussed plans to roll out the model to three bases over the north of Worcestershire.  The results of this have been recognised nationally by 2 awards.
